If India bat first

The mother of all clashes is here.

For the Indian fan, everything before this game was just a dress rehearsal. This is where the real deal starts. And after all the political issues related with this game, everyone is glad for the cricket to finally take centre stage.

It just doesn’t get bigger than this.As Indian cricket fans you live for these games, the memories are countless, the emotions unparalleled. And that is why, you need to be all the more cautious while picking players for this high, high voltage clash. Do not let your emotions get the better of you and pick wisely.

I already have Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim for this game.

The first player that you would normally pick for a game in Kolkata is Rohit Sharma. His love affair with Eden Gardens is well known and well documented. Who can forget the 264 that he scored against Sri Lanka there. Recently too he scored a 98 against South Africa in the warm up game in Kolkata. But wait oh wait! I completely forgot about the budget issue.

Now, the biggest problem with the Indian side is that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli come in at a hefty price of 120k and I know some of you would find it extremely difficult to get both of them in (just like me).

One trick that you could use if you want to get both Kohli and Rohit in your side is to bring in the 50k worth Rashid Khan in. Transfer out the New Zelanders and the English players and try getting Rashid in as he costs just 50k and plays against South Africa the day after. Do this only if you are hell bent on bringing both of them in (which you should, if India bat first)

But if India bat second, it reduces the chances of an Eden Gardens powered Rohit Sharma special and thus I would only get Virat into my team. There is no one better than Virat at chasing a total and he is far more dependable than Rohit. Also, with two games scheduled in Bangalore (which is bound to be a run feast), I wouldn’t want to make a lot of transfers for this game.

I haven’t opted for any Pakistan batsmen because of their unpredictability. You wouldn’t want the ‘ifs and buts’ to control the fate of your side in the closing stages of Phase 1.

Ashwin is probably the most notable exclusion that I make for this game. The reason being that the Kolkata pitch hasn’t offered much to the spinners and also that I just can’t accommodate him with that price tag of 110k. If you are extremely hell bent on getting him in, you’ll have to use the same ‘Get Rashid in’ strategy (because otherwise I’ll have to transfer out Warner which I don’t want to because I’ll want him for the game against Bangladesh)

On the other hand Bumrah could be a good option. He bowls at the death and comes in for just 70k. But I would rather save the transfer.

As for the Pakistan bowlers, I already have their best bets in my side and hence don’t see the need to bring in any other bowler in.

Captain for this game: Virat Kohli
