England finally managed to find their footing in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. The openers set the stage up by stringing together a 172 run partnership. Moeen led the charge and scored a wonderful hundred and Bell provided the perfect support by playing a gritty knock of 54. After the fall of the first wicket, England lost the plot a bit but still managed to get to a total of 303, thanks to some lower order strikes by Morgan and Butler.
The English bowling department was expected to enjoy the swinging conditions at Christchurch and enjoy they did. All of them chipped in with wickets, with Finn being the pick of the bowlers. Scotland’s lack of game time against full member nations was visible as they succumbed to the pressure applied by the English bowlers throughout their chase.
Scotland impressed in patches but in order to maintain a high level of play throughout a match they need to get more exposure at the international level. The ICC needs to reconsider its plans with respect to the development of associate nations.
West Indies vs Zimbabwe
Both teams have won 1 of their 2 games and a victory in this match could bolster their chances of making it to the knockout stage. West Indies have scored 300 plus scores in both their games and if Gayle fires tomorrow, Holder expects them to score 400. Chances of this happening? Very slim.
I already have 3 West Indians in my team(Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels and Jason Holder). I am bringing in Sean Williams for this game, he has been brilliant with the bat and bowl. He is bound to give you at least 100-150 points in this game. Brendan Taylor is a technical sound batsmen and against a West Indian attack that doesn’t instil threat in the minds of the batsmen, Taylor is bound to flourish.
Considering the long boundaries and the pitch I am bringing in Sulemann Benn into my side. He is a frugal investment and will give you the same, if not more points than the other West indian bowlers.
Power Player pick
Chasing on this ground would be tough and thus if Zimbabwe bat second, Suleimann Benn would be my Power Player. But if Zimbabwe bat first, Sean Williams would be my captain.
Trump Card for the day
Suleimann Benn is my trump card for the day.
Happy team picking.
